Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)
With response and box office results varied, espionage film franchise Mission: Impossible widescreen version ultimately survive up to 19 years. This year, dirilislah latest film, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which still starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt powerful agent for the fifth time. Interestingly, the film was finally brave Christopher McQuarrie to no longer focus on the figure of Ethan's story alone. This film became relatively closest to the basic concepts of his TV series first.
If traced back, four films Mission: Impossible former is more widely panned Ethan figure as the main protagonist and driving everything. He is the motor with the planning and implementation, including the most dangerous actions. So that, even if he leads a team of highly skilled spy, he was so impressed that the hero and the only hope-perhaps because this character is played by Cruise a superstar.
This trend is somewhat deviated from the concept of Mission: Impossible TV version from 1967, which prefers teamwork, that the success of the mission does not depend on one person. In a wide-screen version, the values of the team was just beginning to be felt in Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011). However, the second story of the film is still centered on Ethan, to bring out the personal life that also dragged in her life as a spy.
Rogue Nation becomes more refreshing because the plot of the film is no longer centered on Ethan personally, although he remains the main hero. McQuarrie co-wrote the screenplay seemed to think the audience already familiar with Ethan personally for almost 20 years, so it's time to move on and let Ethan and his team concentrate on the mission. And, this is what makes the story Rogue Nation building becomes more flexible in battle and intrigue highlight good against evil, without the burden that everything must be associated with personal Ethan. Now, Ethan encouragement for pure action concerning world peace.
As a result of secret missions undertaken a major impact IMF (Impossible Mission Force), the US government finally freeze this secret organization, and all operations transferred to the intelligence agency CIA, as demanded by the director Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin). In fact, it is precisely at this moment the best IMF agent Ethan Hunt has a strong hint of the existence of Syndicate, a dark organization that the mastermind terrorist incidents of high class without being detected at various places in the world. Knowing the IMF freezing of agent William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), Ethan rebelled and became a fugitive CIA.
Six months since IMF suspended, Ethan found a way to contact his colleague from the IMF, Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) to help investigate more about Syndicate, starting from an attempted assassination of the Austrian chancellor in Vienna. However, at the same time Ethan met also with Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a British secret agent who is now close to Solomon Lane (Sean Harris), which is referred to as the leader of the Syndicate. Ethan and Benji were trying to dismantle the Syndicate through Ilsa, though not entirely sure the woman was on which side.
In the visible, Rogue Nation is regarded as one of Hollywood blockbuster movies that should not be missed simply because this is a Hollywood blockbuster movie. Moreover, this film starring Cruise and the movie of the famous franchise. Plus, the film is penetrated many international elements, such as the shooting in Morocco, the UK, Austria, until he called Jakarta in dialogue and opera set in ancient China-may be related to Rogue Nation produced Paramount joint production home from China, Alibaba Pictures.
Rogue Nation itself was actually quite meet expectations. Almost every action scenes in this film can leave a distinctive impression. Starting from Ethan hung on the plane that took off, speeding in Morocco, to the computer intrusion in the water, which worked neatly and incur the effects of suspense. Moreover, most of the action scenes in the film is executed by not fully rely on CGI, so it looks more convincing. And, fortunately, McQuarrie and his team's showing scenes in the right dose, fantastic but not over-the-top, and in accordance with the principle of the IMF as an organization that operates in secret.
However, Rogue Nation is not only excel there. As mentioned previously, Rogue Nation can be regarded as the film Mission: Impossible most equitable sharing of the portion of the characters. Although Ethan was put forward, this film provides an opportunity for Benji, William, also Luther (Ving Rhames, the only surviving cast members from the first film in addition to Cruise) to appear in a significant portion of the personality of each. The new figures like Ilsa, Hunley, and Solomon successfully presented with a strong presence, played by actors with strong character as well.
Compactness performance of the players helped reinforce the narrative story. Without disclosures are too manipulative, Rogue Nation spoken with the right rhythm. This film could be soluble in political discussions about secret government operations and also Syndicate against capitalism, but the film still focused primary mission of Ethan and his team in subdued Syndicate. Structuring scenes Rogue Nation also includes classy, even poetic. This film is not crammed with a lot of dialogue, but the scenes were shown able to talk effectively, without the need for lengthy explanations.
One of the most obvious evidence is the scene of attempted murder in the opera house in Vienna, almost without dialogue or even the sound of the mouth. Gestures of the figures laid out in such a way against the background of loud opera music, as if they were also part of the opera. The same was said at the climax, which although not as frenetic previous rounds, but it reinforces the point that Mission: Impossible is the story of a team.
Perhaps somewhat prematurely when a Rogue Nation states are the film Mission: Impossible best. Each film in this franchise made by different directors and in accordance with the demands of his day, so it can be a different way of looking at him. However, one thing is certain, with a strong story, pictures of unsightly (the film is filmed using the medium of celluloid film), and a sound system capable, Rogue Nation managed to present a spectacle classy, exciting, thrilling, occasionally funny, and also respect against the basic concept of this franchise.
My score: 8/10
